Better Off Friends is a romance, but it also has the concept of family and how it's not so much as who you are related to, but who you feel comfortable with, much like My Life Next Door.
Alexi in Faking Normal pretends that everything is fine, when it really isn't
and Samantha pretends that the way her family lives, is the way she wants to live.
In The Distance Between Us, Caymen's mom doesn't want her to be dating Xander, then in My Life Next Door, Samantha's mom doesn't want her and Jase together. Star-crossed romance, gotta love it!
Both books feature boy-next-door figures, and putting your trust in someone else, even when it is a risk.
